Scomo…hell, NO!

Scott Morrison

Current Prime Minister of Australia

PO Box 6022
House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600

Dear Scott,

It’s said that you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the bulk of your time with. Based on your comments about women’s success should not come at the expense of others during an International Women’s Day address in Perth, I I’ve narrowed down the 5 people you’ve been hanging out with:

1. Jed Clampett

2. A Stegosaurus called Bruce

3. Tony Abbott (lord, have mercy)

4. That brain-dead fella who’s the voice over for Clive Palmer’s television advertisement

5. Foghorn Leghorn

I’m gonna help you, Kelly O’Dwyer and any other Liberal who might be a bit confused about equality – because I get it, these are confusing times. China is building its own islands to control the waters of the South China Sea, something is decidedly funky in Venuzela and is there REALLY a feud between the Duchesses Catherine and Megan?!? I mean, there’s SO MUCH to wrap your head around these days, it’s enough to blow your tiny mind.  And in the case of equality, it’s totally zapped your synapses, Scott.

There’s a hint in what equality means – take the first five letters, discard the rest and you’re barking up the right tree.  It means equal for all. What you have access to as a man, I do as well as a woman.  No one – unless, seemingly you have “Liberal values” – is advocating otherwise.

I’m curious about your statement “We want to see women rise. But we don’t want to see women rise only on the basis of others doing worse.”

Dude…who the “others” you speak of?  Possums? Javelins? Stegosauruses? Scott, do you mean….men?

In the rise of women through the ranks of the employed, how many men have you heard of having their opportunities curtailed by work-hungry women?

How many men have been impacted negatively by savvy women having their own financial independence?

Where are the longitudinal studies of men having gone backwards in terms of life expectancy because a women has access to child care to participate in the workforce if she chooses?

You have two daughters.  One day they’ll be out in the workforce and be up for a promotion. Is the guidance you give to them about pursuing this opportunity going to be “I really want to see you go for this…but only if it doesn’t mean that any of your male colleagues will do worse. K, bye”.  That’s some fucked up advice Scott.

Do better.  You are the *current* leader of Australia and it’s 2019 not 1959. Come into the now, Scott. There’s a new album from Solange, Anne Summers has dropped her memoir and there are infinitely more interesting people to engage with then the current five you’re doing time with.

Kind regards,

Fiona Jefferies

P.S. Say high to Barry the Stegosaurus for me.
